DPS has been awarded British Standard OHSAS 18001 complimenting the BS 9001 Quality standard as part of its Integrated Management System. This places DPS at the forefront of customer service, quality and health and safety management.
OHSAS 18001 (stands for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) is a framework for an occupational health and safety management system. It helps put in place the policies, procedures and controls needed for the organization to achieve the best possible working conditions, aligned with internationally recognized best practice.
The decision to implement OHSAS 18001 was taken by the DPS board in early September 2013. The development of policies and procedures were developed in the following months with a pre-audit carried out in January 2014 by auditors SGS. The pre-audit identified the inevitable shortcomings in our development of the system and signalled the transition required to implement the policies and procedures that had been developed. January to June was a period of intense work with staff training and the transition from documentation to implementation required to bring the system to life. A full two day audit was performed in mid June by SGS, including a site visit to an ongoing project. The auditors found only minor recommendations and proposed that DPS be awarded 18001 certification.
“Health & Safety is our priority at DPS. In our line of work, our service team is exposed to various types of hazards which need to be mitigated with careful assessment and controls. The team has a wealth of H&S experience developed over 30 years. However, OHSAS 18001 embeds a Management System which ensures we continually review and improve our procedures.” – Health & Safety Manager, DPS.
DPS Sales Manager, David Jamshidi said, “18001 is a robust system, which allows opportunities to tender for more work with selective clients. Achieving certification will open up even more business opportunities for the company.”
